From vehicle positions to a useful map
The work connects vehicle positions with routes, trips and stops, so that a moving marker has more context than a location alone. It includes route filtering, stop information and map behaviour designed to update without rebuilding the whole view each time.
Small details that change the result
Some of the most useful engineering work happened in the details: preserving complete route identifiers, matching records to the correct vehicle, connecting a stop identifier to a readable stop name, and keeping markers stable between updates.
Those details are less visible than the map itself, but they affect whether the information on it makes sense.
Vehicle positions and arrival estimates
The project has also explored simulated movement and estimated arrival times. Those are not the same as an observed vehicle position or a prediction supplied by a transport operator.
A useful demonstration needs to make those distinctions clear: label simulation and estimates, and show the age of observations where available. That clarity matters more than making every marker appear to move smoothly.
This is an independent transport-data prototype.
